Actual prediction then.
One nil to Walsall, goal from the Moonster.
A solid if unspectacular performance. Don't think we'll start to well, but as the first half goes on we will settle down. Goal before half time. Bit of hanging on throughout the second half as we get used to league one again.
Good crowd I think. Just a slight over 8000 there I reckon.

Likely line up then:
Ince
Wrack
Dann
Gerrard
Boertien
Fox
Dobson
Sonner
Hall
Mooney
Butler
Subs: Bossu, Roper, Carneiro, and two from Bradley/Deeney/Nicholls/Smith/McDermott
We're going to be hard to break down but I can't see us creating too much. 0-0. :(

Passed the ball well in pre-season? The impression I've got, both from here and folk there, is that 45 minutes against the Villa aside and little other spells, we've been pretty reminscent of last seasons tactics and style and have been pretty long at times.

Passed the ball well for all 90 minutes against the Vile, Stu, and for long periods against the Blues. Haven't seen the other pre season games, as they are a little irrelevant.
What I would say, however, is that Sonner and Dobson whatever the merits of the players as individuals, look a better balanced pairing than Keates and Dobson and it is in the passing that that shows most.

Not at all Stu. We played some excellent stuff against Villa in the second half. in my opinion. Sonner's long range passing was excellent and accurate but that's not long ball/
And as I've said before we did play some good stuff, mainly early last season and we will do again this season. Just because we're defensive doesn't mean we play long ball as I don't think we do, apart from when Fox does his party trick of punting aimless balls into the box.

That's exactly what I said though, apart from the 2nd half against Villa, the comments on here pre-season have been that we've not really been any different to the end of last season.
I was just asking whether that was right, as I've not seen any of pre-season as its like pi$$ing money down the drain in my view.
I do think we'll see a better style to last season, as I think its irked him that the style has been criticised and I believe he is very much a "Well I'll show them..." type of person, which is probably a good thing in a way.
Neil, funny you mention that the other games were all irrelavnet apart from Villa/Blues, when Money reckons that those two were the irrelavent games and the other ones were the benchmarks. Not being awkward, just pointing that out.

Depends what you're looking for. Against lower laegue opposition, I think he'd have been looking for individual performances and how they shaped up against their opponent. Against Villa and Blues, you get to judge how we do in terms of organisation and how we measure up against teams better than us.
I think his was another of his "throw away" comments that people take too much notice of - he was probably firghtened we'd get thumped and the doom and gloom merchants would than have been out in force, or, just as bad, get a win and there'd be ridiculous over optimism.

Not throw away at all to be honest... The likes of Burton and Kiddy are probably providing more realistic tests than Villa and Blues did to be honest. Villa and Blues are probably nice for letting you stroke the ball around and get comfy on it, but thats not really League 1 football.

[Not a dig at the quoted two] But does anybody remember a certain poster who said Dann and Gerrard will start at the back?

UptheSaddlers marks the start of the new season today with the launch of a new service aimed at bringing the atmosphere and the banter of match days LIVE to Saddlers fans around the world.

To take part all you need to do is email your photos and videos to [email protected] or, direct from your mobile, send them by MMS to 07740 404142 making sure the word “uts” followed by a space is in the first word of your message.
You can check in what fans are sending LIVE by visiting http://live.upthesaddlers.com
It’s UptheSaddlers - now going LIVE
