Saturday is a massive game and we have a squad shorn of 4 or 5 first team players.

I was interested after Bernie posted our other poor starts to look back at 96/97 and the atrocious results we had in the first 3 months of the season. Back then I can't remember anyone really calling for Nicholl to be sacked.
It took an age to turn that season round, including a bit of money spent on bringing Andy Watson and John Hodge in to pep up the attack.

I think this is a very similar situation, the main difference being that we now have 5,000 supporters instead of 3,000. That seems to bring a whole new mentality to the situation for some reason.

I'd prefer the supportive 3,000 to be honest!

Where were Sunderland this time last season?
Where were Hartlepool?

It's not the end of the world if everyone was being truthful when they said they'd be happy with mid table.

I don't think there are any positives tonight, and I think there were precious few on Saturday. However, you will need good eyesight to see any happy clappers because they all dissappeared the day Paul Merson exited his windowless office in search of 20 bottles of Becks in The Swan.

I would entirely agree with anyone who would say we've missed a trick by not signing a proven goalscorer pre-season, however that is far from the only reason we have had a poor start. We ar currently routinely conceeding 2 goals before half-time, that is abysmal, but it doesn't mean the likes of Roper, Dann, Ince, Boetien etc are bad players.

I think a little bit of togetherness wouldn't go amiss at the moment, because the players are on the brink of totally losing confidence and if that happens we've got big problems. I'm certain once loan signings become possible we will have one or two on board as we did to good effect last season.

Ahhh, the soothing ramblings of a happy clapper.
MMF must be over the moon too, watching the youngsters having a run out.
We've lost five in row..who cares?

I think some people are getting the wrong end of the stick.

Despite missing chances we are scoring enough goals to win games (apart from tonight!) or at least pick up points. We are just making pathetic defensive errors which we weren't last season.

Cut those out before worrying about the other end in my opinion.

You clearly do. Loving it aren't you? No doubt the reason you've taken so long to come on here and gloat is because you've been sat there w***ing over it ever since the second goal went in.

Yep, I'm happy. I'm happy I have a club to support. And I'm happy I can laugh at so many getting worked up about it all so early into the season.

I'll be also happy when we finish mid table which I predicted at the start and see no reason why I should change that.

Eh? 3 in 6. At BEST that could only win us half the games we played.

Yeah, coming from a bloke who got all his facts wrong and was saying our natural level is at Championship level. I think he should check the history books.

Sums our fans up.

yeah i know but just thought i would post it.

what made me laugh was when he said "i think the premiership would ruin us to be honest"

your right though some of our fans dont have a clue, and are living in a dream world half the time.

Not to mention losing the last 5 games.

MMF WE WILL NOT FINISH HALF WAY WITH THIS TEAM.

If we strengthen when the window opens then opinions may change. But I worry if we go a goal down Saturday- there are more than just the four of us on UTS now that are getting concerned and restless.

And? So you wouldn't be happy if we won half of our games?! ;)

The fact is the defence is much more of a concern than scoring. You only need to score one goal to win 3 points. When we've stopped conceding (like last season) we can concentrate on missing less chances, cos we're creating all right.

Face it, the people who moaned about the defensive football have got their wish. We're playing a more open game and it's costing us.

Hope you're happy.....I'll set the counter...:P

Expected a nothing performance tonight ending up in elimination from the competition, so to say that I'm angry would be exaggerating.

This side needs strengthening. Money knows that, I'm sure. Looks like we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Just to refer back to what was said by a reasonably sensible caller on WM about Bonser not being able to get a return on a player he pays money for. What about the money we'll get for the gates which will be higher in League One than they will be in League Two, where we could well be heading if nothing gets sorted? Similarly, what about the money earned from a promotion won by a 20-goal striker? Of course, I don't expect us to spend big given our previous record, but he's more of an idiot than people have often suggested if he thinks it's impossible to make money by paying for players.

If you'd like to point out where I said we'd be signing them for definite, post away.

There is a difference between talking to a player and signing them. Think on about Lester and the other players I mentioned who have been confirmed since.

The fact is, the clubs with positive fans who back their teams produce better results.......FACT. Not happy clappers but people who support their team.

:( it's a sad fact that J.B. has not given enough money to D.D. to allow him to sign the players that he perhaps wanted to, certainly we the fans will never know.
This situation will I believe lead to D.D. walking eventually and that will be a sad day for all Walsall fans.
We have not seen too many goals so far this season, but I think that's down to the lack of creativity in our midfield,
when Dobson plays just in front of the back 4 we look more solid and I think he's being asked to cover for Hall and Sonner because neither of them could tackle a bacon sandwich.
Hall may do a temporary job up front as long as he's up against a slower player, but midfield or wide - no chance, unless there is space for him to knock the ball in.
Sonner needs runners so he can play the quick pass and we don't run off the ball that well.
Hence we have to play posession usually along the back line and this allows the opposition to push onto our defenders putting them under pressure which results in the 'hoof' up the pitch.
You can't get away with that in this division, and D.D. knows it but unless one or two of the reserve players come through we're stuck with it.

The bloke who said about bonser saying "why should i buy a player i wont get a return on" is a bit of a konb really, his mate said so.

I find ridiculous and very hard to belive Jeff bonser would say that to someone he just played golf with once.

Right. Could you provide me with a list of players that we could sign and compete with other clubs for wages and transfer fees that will guarantee 20 goals and a promotion?

No. It is impossible.

We spoke to lots of strikers capable of scoring that many goals. Clubs with bigger fanbases and higher ticket prices offered bigger wages. Simple economics.

So..just to be fair mark, your saying there is no one out there we could have signed to score 20 goals a season? and the only economically viable outcome was to sign....the dreaded canary?

You're a fairly knowledgeable poster MMF but occasionally you come out with some right pap. So Man Utd fans are well known for their positive, always-happy outlook are they?

This is not the same set of fans that Keane once lambasted as being prawn sandwich munchers who went deathly quiet if they hadn't scored after 20 minutes was it?

I'm not saying that at all. I'm saying NO-ONE can guarantee 20 goals a season.

Blame Money for the signings he's made. For the final time, there's money there waiting. He is the one who said all last week I want to give the players I've got a chance first. DD, not Bonser.

Jack Lester
Spencer Weir Daley
Ian Moore

There's three we could have easily got if the club had taken a chance. A three year contract to Lester would have been more reasonable than a year contract to Canary and Sonko.
