Still 0-0 I think, Pedro says Junior is poor, Sonko is OK.

Typical friendly game.....cack!!!

Fox and Sonner were the only two that stood out for me. Mooney was too busy shouting orders to concentrate on his own game. The only bit of real excitement was from Ishy who took a player on a drilled a ball from 25 yards that hit the post.

I wish I' stayed at home and watched songs of praise

If we was to win a prize for winning pre season games then great but they are only there for the players to warm up etc.

I for one do not praise the team if they win pre season games and I will not slag them of if they don't win them.

In other words "Stop Moaning and Get Behind the Lads". Congratulations on being the first to make that contribution to a post match thread in 2007/08.

Would your principles have led you to complain if YGA had written about how brilliant the team was, and how good all the new players looked, how everyone is really looking good for the new season?

I appreciate news of how we have played in pre-season friendlies and am very grateful to those who spend time giving us their opinions. Of course pre-season friendlies are meaningless, and very often they are poor indicators of how we are going to do once the season begins. We know that. On the other hand it is interesting to read the impressions of someone who took the trouble to go and watch the meaningless match.

me too! we were poor, only one shot all game says it all. It was a screamer and would have been a wonder goal if it had gone it.Also loved the way Dann kept telling everyone to move out and was the first to move back himself, but I wont say that on here because we all know he's the blue eyed boy

Well it can only get better I hope!

Rightfully so as well. I know he's only played one season but he'd be one of first names on my team sheet

I don't post often but felt the need to upon reading the above.

No it wasn't the best 90 mins of football you were ever going to see but this was our first pre-season game, a game where we had a change of team in each half. No stop moaning and get behind the lads message from me, just a reality check and wait to see how we progress over the rest of the pre-season games. It wouldn't be Walsall if we had a settled team and no trialists coming in at this stage of the season, but it is always like that and I am prepared to hold my final conclusion on the team and our chances until August 11th.

I don't think we played to badly and we came into it a bit more in the second half. Out of the trialists, Mario Pedro probably shaded it for me and I can remember being impressed with him when he played for Hednesford against us last season. It would be interesting to know what his age is? Under 22 and he might be worth a punt! Zonko looked good in flahes and Junior played everything just that little to short. Don't think we should get rid of them yet, as it would be good to see how they fare in a couple more showings for us. I thought Troy Deeney looked a decent player, good enough for a start, probably not but he has some good old pro's around him that he can learn off.

So in a nutshell, first pre-season game out of the way, no injuries to report, 45 mins under the belt for most of the squad, team taking shape with other new faces to come in presumably. Keep the faith, we will be fine come August 11th :D

Oh and Scott Dann isn't the blue-eyed boy he is Golden Balls :D

What were conditions like at the ground? pitch? Was it a nightmare to travel?

Pitch was fine , though the grass looked a little on the long side.
