Swansea (H) Johnson's Paint Trophy - Tuesday 17/10/06

Sat Oct 14, 2006 4:56 pm

Should be a good game with both teams having fairly strong teams out - I'll go for a 2-1 win. This will be a test to see if we will concede with the likes of Fat trundle, knight. I think we will probley concede this time round but i thought that today and we were solid!

1-0 Saddlers. I recon he will start with some 'fringe' players and will prob give Nicholls a start or i'd excpect at least a run out, and maybee Wracky too.

It'll be Walsall reserves on the pitch, I reckon - the squad isn't that big, and this is the Experiment Cup for teams with something to play for in league 1 / 2 (unlike those fighting to get promoted/avoid getting relegated).

Plus it costs money to play, given the pathetic crowds these games attract in the early stages.

Think you could be right. Wouldn't be surprised to see Butler rested and Constable get a start. Also the likes of Keates and Dobbo may get a rest too i'd think.

There's no extra time in the competition because the Football League/Johnstones are trying to encourage kids to the games by offering tickets at £10 including 2 kids free.

Neil/Exile - There is something in the paper today saying that The Football League will fine any club £5000 if they don't play at least 6 of the most used players in league games.

I think we'll win, 1-0. Pity Trundle cam back from injury yesterday but they way we're defending we can keep him quiet.

The news of the world reckons that a side must play at least 6 regular players of face 5,000 pound fine.
In tonights E&S DD is talking about resting Butler playing Bedeau upfront and giving Wrack a good run out . makes sense to me .

Its in the new rules i think, if you dont have 6 players that arenti njured from the last match.
The fa should do this to the league cup, make man utd play their full team, and the what not.

Also the match goes straight to penalties no exra time i nthe new rules, as so not to tire your players out anymore than needed, is a a new rule for anyoen that didnt know.

Hopefully will be a good match, cant see it being amazing though.

The rule about by-passing extra time was not brought in to spare the players. It is there to avoid very late finishes (like we had at Swansea, last January) and thus to encourage more youngsters to attend. This is also why there is free admission for accompanied under-16s. An interesting marketing ploy. I hope it succeeds.

1-0 Walsall - erm, Bedeau. The penalties is a stupid idea! They're not subsidising prices fpr each match are they?!

How do they plan to put the top 6 used players. List them and then take the top 6 on appearances?! :?:

I assume that 6 of the first 16 most used (team and subs), or 11 (team) have to be named in the squad.
