Bolton (H) Carling Cup 2nd Round- 19/09/06
Thought I would start my first thread in ages.
If Bolton play a weakened team, we will win 2-1.
If Bolton play 4/5 first team regulars, we will lose 3-2.

Can't see us winning, unless Uncle Sam fails to pay us proper respect and sticks out a much-weakened side.
I'll say 3-1 to them, with Butler getting ours, but if it's a weakened side I think we'd push them hard and maybe take the game 3-2.
Either way I can't see us keeping a clean sheet for this one, but for me the record should only cover league games i.e. against teams at our own level, so it'll remain intact at least until Mansfield come to town.

Has nobody noted the teams Bolton have put out against us in the past? The team will be weakened which will give us a chance of scraping a 1-0 but I still think they will be too strong for us. If Anelka plays, I'll be shocked but pleasantly surprised. Why would Allardyce risk his start striker and the one that could make a difference to their season in a game where they still have strikers good enough to beat us without him?

Not really Steve, cup games shouldn't count. .
OK - we can use that excuse if we concede

Whatever it is, I just hope we don't get extra time and penalties.
I know the money would be great but the league has to come first and silly injuries caused by 120 minutes of cup football would be a disaster especially with Gerrard suspended.

Agreed. Let's get it over in 90 mins. The league is the thing.

Looking on Bolton sites, they don't do the reserve team thing any more. Pretty strong line-ups for the past couple of years even in the League Cup. They don't have a huge squad to change things around anyway, plus they haven't won away in months (maybe not even this year?) so will be looking for a bit of confidence on the road. Don't expect many travelling fans.
