Well, I guess we were never going to create much with that midfield were we? I know it is very early, not to say foolish, to make predictions at this stage, but it is increasingly looking to me like a season of mediocrity awaits. But then again, we may have been excellent today against a decent Conference side.

But don't forget it was away so 0-0 is quite good, a point gained. If we win the majority of our home games and get the odd point away we'll be fine...arrrrrrrgh, who did I sound like then?!!
But seriously, we do need to judge when the league season counts - DD has said it's fitness and level of performance he's looking at preseason, results has been a secondary issue. Mind you I'd like to know whether 'level of performance' was any good today and how our midfield created etc. I'm guessing that Bedeau and Dobson weren't fit enough still to play and that taylor and fox may start next saturday as they were today as it was the last real pre-season friendly.
Looking forward to next saturday, just hope we start well!

Dreary performance from a poor team against reasonable opposition. Simon Osborn played the first half for Stafford, it's a pity we cannot swop him for Keates on todays showing. Hector Sam contrived to miss a number of good opportunities in particular one when he scuffed a shot wide of the goal when it was easier to score. Butler [our best player] who made the chance, stood hands on hips with his eyes to the sky and who knows how many times, with Sam as his strike partner, will that pose be repeated over the season to come. I thought Fox and Ince were particularily poor and we were lucky that their strike force of 42 year old Neil Grayson didn't get the chances that Sam had. The high point for me as always at Stafford was the public announcer who's rounded plum like tones entertained us before the match with gems like 'There's youngster Dean Keates captain of Walsall tossing the coin, Clay Ince in goal, Craig Read and of course substitute Ishmel Deemoantenyak' 10 minutes from the end. Hilarious, we must try and recruit him. [Sorry Stafflers]
I'm never going to watch another friendly match, they are absolute pants, I say it every year, perhaps next year will be different
Suppose I'll have to go to Rochdale, it can't be as bad as today can it?

Were you seriously expecting anything more though?
I'm not, I'll be pleased if we make top 8... I expect 9-12th place.
TBH, not really. Like you I have predicted an upper half finish. However, you always hope for more.

I think a few of us could have told you that before today. Keates isn't a patch on Osborn but of course, we're stuck with Keates and couldn't afford to keep Osorn because of a certain former manager.
