I wasn't overly impressed with that performance tonight TBH. Notwithstanding the fact it was against a Premiership side, it was generally CRAP. The attacking threat was CRAP, the midfield was CRAP, and the defence performed CRAP. Wasn't overly happy to see the goalkeeper poncing about twenty five yards off his line for one of the goals.
I'll accept it was a friendly, and that's the only mitigating argument I can accept. However it's hardly the ideal performance to offer up so close to the start of the season. But hey, it was a nothing game and I'm certain Mr. Money will get things will work out in the end and lead us to a thrilling promotion.

For the first 25 minutes tonight it was difficult to pick out the premiership side, although that was more due to Villa looking poor than us looking good. Villa's second goal looked to be off-side, but the bigger problem was that it was a follow up on an Ince spill. Player of the first half for me was Pead. Neither Sam nor Bedeau were up to taking on a Premiership defence.
After the break we seemed to run out of the few ideas we had and Villa upped the tempo. To be honest we never looked like scoring and I don't remember us producing a save from their keeper (correct me please). 5 - 0 at the end showed that Villa took the chances they made and that we did not really make any chances. When Ishmel came on he looked lively and actually beat their right back to get some crosses in - but no-one was in the box.
Roper was given man of the match - strange to give it to a central defender after we have let in five.
OK - positve side is that we were playing a Premiership side with a number of internationals; something we will not face in the League. Individually a number of players looked strong (Pead, Dobson, Ishmel), and Butler took a whole host on knocks that should have picked up cards. With a bit of protection he would have had a good game.
Negative side - lack of ideas or a plan B, defensive midfield that did not feed the forwards, some confusion between Ince and the back 4 ... Ince!!!! We have spent years complaining that our keepers do not come out for crosses, but Ince does maybe come out too far and too often - right to the edge of the box and beyond - hence the confusion with the central defenders. He also spills the ball a lot - feeding any player that folllows up a shot.
I am not knocking Ince - still feel that he is a good keeper (gathers most crosses and corners) - but there are areas that need attention --- fast!

Don't understand our team selection. What is Money trying to achieve with Taylor at the back and Fox wide midfield?
Seems to be giving players a different view of the game, which might be worthwhile once we get back to normal. Certainly the lineup against the Vile didn't work.
Also a bit concerned about the lack of height and goal threat from Butler and Sam. OK, they will do more against div 2 sides, but I think Butler and Constable could be far more effective.
In Bedeau we actually have a player worse than Mark Wright, whilst Dobson reminds me too much of Paul Smith. As for Ince ....

The Man cant even hold a ball down right, every shot I saw he dropped the ball, which eventually led to one of there goals.
That's the Clayton Ince I remember, which is why he was never a permanent regular at Crewe...
And keepers that come for everything are worse than those that don't come for anything, as if they don't get it, your far more likely to concede a goal than the keeper who just stays on his line.
Other thing to consider is that although Villa are in dis-array, that may have only united the players even more, the departure of O'Leary may have solved many of their problems and most importantly, Villa came with a point to prove.
