May well be a trip to the potteries, always to be looked forward to. The welcoming nature of the clayheads is unique across the land.

I see Nuneaton are paying for Middlesboroughs thumping at the weekend!

I wanted Tamworth, as I can't see us beating Sjoke away.

On the plus side, thats another £40k in prize money for Merson to waste, or Bonser to appropriate!

Excellent result - good for confidence, and great to get more money in the bank for the club.

I'd prefer Tamworth too, but doubt they'll manage to get through extra time - Stoke's superior fitness should tell in the end.

Here, here! Well done boys, it sounded as if the new boys had decent game and Ishy kept his cool and showed what he can do.

A good result for the red Saddlers tonight against Barnsley. It would be good if Tamworth beat the claybrains on penalties after extra time, but Stoke should pull through this tie.

I've got the commentary on via Stoke's website... To be honest, neither side have had a meaningful opportunity in the 2nd half yet.

Its Stoke 5-4 on penalties. And Ropes and Ossie substituted due to pulled hamstrings according to Merse on the official site!!

A lot better tonight. Still gave away too much possesion, still too slow to support the (makeshift) attack. However saying that we had the cjances to be 3 or 4 up.

Timm had a great first half hour and then faded. I spoke to Neil at half time and he was moaning about Timm being wasteful. Now come on Neil, when Osborn is wasteful you claim it's down to nobody offering themselves for a pass. Isn't Timm allowed the same defence ? Can't have it both ways !

Can someone show Wright a video of Ishy ? If Wright is challenged and pushed by a player he pulls out of the challenge. If they do the same to Ishy he just pushes back twice as hard. If Wright could get this part of his game sorted he could become a useful player, because he can put a decent cross in. Come on Merson, get some Guinesses's down him and beef him up a bit

Bring on the clayheads. At least 1,500 Walsall fans will make the hour trip to Stoke and support the lads in the 4th round of the FA Cup. I would have liked to have had Tamworth but atleast we will get more gate receipts from the Stjoke match and it gives us a chance to get our own back after they failed to score against Gillingham that sent us down.

Onto the game...

I thought we played better than Saturday but we still need a striker. Mr Devlin will be better than Wrighty down the wing with Ishy down the other side. James MUST start upfront. He looks more involved in both cup games compared to Saturday. Gerrard & Roper were the rock again although Westy didnt do too bad when he came on  hard to believe I know! Man Of the match for me was Leary. If his first three games are anything to go buy we have found a gwm in this bloke. Does all the tidy stuff and isnt afraid to have a pop.

Negative from the night, JUST a measly 4,074 turned up. :?

You were two out wfc, it was 4,074 (which was a whole 74 more than Tamworth !).

I thought Westwood was OK, I nearly went home when I saw he'd come on. Fair play though, he did the job.

tamworth had 3877

looked quite good leary provided the drive required especially in second half

but with three wingers and mad in the hole we still do not have a out anf out striker

leary man of the match
