Yes, 11 metres = 12 yards (approx.)

Trivia note:- the penalty-kick in Germany is called "elfmeter" (11 metres) - referring, of course, to the distance of the penalty-kick mark from the goal-line.

Okay then smarta*se  How far, in metric, is ten yards (for how far the wall has to retreat from a freekick) ? Does a European referee pace out (say) 9 paces or do they just have a smaller stride ?

These questions need answering :? :P

9.15 metres.

..... and on referee training courses, we mark out this distance and get the trainee refs to to count their paces as they walk the distance. Obviously, a lanky-legged bloke would need fewer strides than a little short-a**e like, say, Geoff

So there!

Question: If Geoff were a ref, then would he use elf-metres too?

It never ceases to amaze me, when watching Serie A, how often, when they put that circular graphic on screen for free kicks, how often the wall is precisely 10 yards away.

Almost certainly Exile !

And if I were a ref, we'd have better decision making out on the pitch as well mate, you can bet on it !

Oh, and another thing, the wife recently came home from the sales with a green coat for me - so I can no longer claim never to have owned a green coat - though maybe I would have been wiser not to have mentioned that !

I think we'll score a few goals Saturday. Having watched Huddesfield play Bradford it looks as though they can't play against the long ball. Most of the balls Bradford lofted forward to their full backs they couldn't cope with and everytime it'd bounce behind the defenders. It would only take someone like Ishmel, with pace, to run at the full backs and win the ball. That our usual game plan anyway, smashing the ball forward. So I'm expecting a few goals.

Huddesfield 2 - 2 Walsall

No, I'm not saying that. But we usually play the long ball anyway, so we shouldn't have a problem.

We usually TRY to play the long ball game. For it to work, you need someone good in the air up front (like Windass at Bradford). It'll never work if Jorge is out on the wing & Fryatt is up front on his own.

Talking of big man, Barry Conlon is about to join Rotherham on loan from Barnsley as he isn't getting a chance at Barnsley.

Gave us, mainly Ian Roper, the run around at the Bezla last season playing as a sole striker up front.

Big bloke, good in the air, holds a ball up.

Just what we...

4-1 defeat. If we're lucky. The main factors being the amount of injuries we have plus the possibility of Staunton being back.

But would love to be proved wrong....

Not just Westwood, Bennett also failed to cover according to WM and the defence weren't happy with Ruddy on it either...

And so much for this small squad and with no experience, its a decent team he has out there.

In fact, the average age is higher than last week and they have more appearances!

1-1 Paul Smith with a looping header from 15 yards over a crowd and into the bottom corner? How does that happen then? I'll need to see the video!

Edit: Zzzzzzzz from the defenders 2-1

Neil, your report must be wrong because Merson is working with one of the smallest and most inexperienced squads in the division. Ernst and Zippy keep telling me this, so it must be true.

Amazing isn't it? Out of the eleven, only Ruddy, Fox and Demontagnac could really be called "inexperienced". Including subs, Fryatt has 71 appearances and Bennett has 45 (only one less than Joe Broad, who is 4 years older) of the "teenagers"(sic). (The quotes are because Merson always refers to Bennett as one one of the teenagers, despite the fact he's 21 in December!).
