2-0 loss.

If we are laughable agaist Chesterfield at home, God knows what the guys at the top of the table will do on their own turf.

As much as Merson must be responsible for playing both Smith and himself against Chesterfield, I still feel that the main problem on Saturday was the sudden drafting in of an inexperienced goalkeeper due to Oakes's injury.

Rene looked suspect in the first half with him not coming for anything, and this obviously led to Chesterfield bombarding the box with high balls.

With the new keeper, and as he has 2 days to gel with the team, I sense there will be a far better defensive performance (can't be much worse than the 2nd half against Chesterfield), and am going for a 3-1 victory to the Saddlers (Jorge, Husbands, and Westwood to score).

It'll be a game of confidence. Look at the table, and say who's likely to have more of it

Not a clue, to be honest. Why?

Haven't got the slightest idea which players will be picked this week.

Don't know what formation we will adopt (if any).

No idea what motivational teamtalk 'the gaffer' will give 'the lads' at half time.

2-1 Scunny, at a guess.

Player to be slagged off by Merse in the radio interview afterwards? Err, Kris Taylor. Why not? :?

Same as you, for all those reasons, although I think the player to be slagged off might be Bennett (if picked) or Wright (if picked) - Taylor probably won't be.

I think I've heard it all now. Blame last week on an 18 year old keeper, nothing to do with the twerp picking the team and making the substitutions.

Yeah, OK, whatever, I'll go for it, with loony ideas like this, what's the point in arguing ? !!

Match preview is now on line on the front page, including the Merson quote about him playing.

Merson starts - it's just a question of how many we lose by.

Nah, it's only 11, as Merson and Smith are only half a player each.

Mersons playing?!

Im changing my predicition from 2-1 to 4-1.

What is he thinking, especially after recent weeks of us criticising his decisiom to play himself not including the decisions of formations etc..

As I said on another thread, I think we may get something out of today, anyway. The players have pulled his nuts out of the fire so often in the past, despite him, that I can see them doing it yet again.

Line up directly from the Fat Controller:-

Ruddy

Pead Westwood Gerrard Fox

Merson Osborn Taylor Smith

Leitao Fryatt

Subs: Staunton, Kinsella, Husbands, Wright, Gilmartin

Sunny, but cool.

1-1 I think...can't see us winning.
It would have been interesting to see Husbands start after his performance in the reserves. It would certainly have made Fryatt think twice about his star billing.

I can only assume that is really a 4 3 1 2 as well, unless Merson is on the right wing and Taylor on the left

We're going back to exactly what failed us last season...

That team may as well be a replica of Oldham last August...
