a close fought game with walsall just edging it i would be a lot more confident if westwood were available or roper is fit for the game as 3 teenagers in the back 4 could be asking for trouble!

2-1 defeat.

I don't have confidence in pairing Bennett and Gerrard against Butler and Burton. That's why I presume Merse is after Staunton, as he needs some experience.

Agreed Stu, though to be honest I don't like the idea of pairing Bennett with anyone. Wasn't impressed with him today - still don't think he's ready at this standard.

Having said that, it was a pretty poor performance all round today against a ManU side that were far quicker, more mobile, more accurate, faster of thought and ideas, in fact superior all over the park.

Conceded four, could have been far worse to be honest. It's early days, but the lack of ideas going forward, and the lack of adequate front runners, is a bit worrying, we don't seem to have addressed this at all as yet.

Will be interesting against Villa if we see Paul Smith and Matty Fryatt in the side for the first time in pre-season.

I agree with that. I'm not confident is Bennett and Gerrard together - they are simply lacking in experience (and height).

1-1 or a 2-1 defeat.

Bennett came into the side with alot of potential, but has failed to improve for me. Still making the same mistakes he was last year. I didn't go today so i can't comment on that, but from the comments made, it seems he was much the same.

I don't fancy us at Rotherham at all.. i think it's a pretty testing game for first game of the season. No Westwood, which is obviously a concern. I would be more than happy to see us come away with a point.

It seems more and more likely we will start the season without Fryatt, that is a real worry for me, because we seem to have no obvious targets to bring in to replace him. I think that Larossa only got a deal because we had no other irons in the fire.

It's going to be a testing start, ok you never know who the top teams will be before the season, but you have to say, Rotherham, Hartlepool, Bournemouth away add Forest at home to that, Looks a bit daunting. If we come out of our first six games and we are in the top six, i may start to believe we have a realistic chance.

think we could edge it 2-1. defence must be strong and it'll be a real tester without Westwood.

I'm going for 1-1, second half equaliser from Leitao!

Dann looked good against Villa, what about him and Gerrard? Scouse connection!

Five points from our opening three games would do.

It'll be two each on Saturday...Butler is bound to make up for his 'accidental' cock up against us on the last day of the 2003-04 season.

Rotherham have just signed Neil Cutler from Stockport - we put 3 past him in our last league game.
2-1 to the Saddlers

Match preview now on line on the front page. I've had to go for a defeat, as I have worries about Gerrard and Bennett as the central defenders up against Burton and Butler's experience. Think we'll miss Westwood and/or Staunton.

Lets hope we get an away win early in the season this time to get us on a roll.

I think we can get a draw tomorrow though. 1-1, Larossa scoring a late equaliser for us from the bench.

I agree 100% with Neil (for a change!) I think that the best we will get will be a draw - I too am going for 1 - 1, Butler and Kris Taylor. In my heart I hope for better, but my head keeps telling me otherwise.
